Austria

Nepomukhof is a family owned winery in the Eastern part of Austria, in the heart of the “Roemerland Carnuntum”, where they enjoy the cool breeze from the river Danube in the North and the warm Mediterranean climate in the South.
Maria and Christian Grassel are the 3rd generation at the helm of Nepumukhof. Christian is passionate about the environment and therefore he decided to transfer the winery to a biological organic wine farm. They also keep bees in their wine gardens in order to make their contribution to fight against the worldwide bee extinction. This led to the idea of growing wine like in the olden days – in symbiosis with the mulberry tree, that is mentioned eight times in the bible as being used in winery. The wine garden is being hand processed and intervention is kept at a minimum Since Easter 2018, they are cultivating the worlds’ first Bible Winegarden. “Grüner Silvaner” grapes and Mulberry trees grow in a perfect symbiosis just like 5000 years ago.
Maria and Christian Grassel are heading the Farm in the 3rd Generation. Christian is passionate about the environment and so her changed the whole operation to Biological farming. He runs the cellar with his eldest son Gabriel at his side who has graduated from the winemaking institute in Eisenstadt. Christian is not interested in producing easy drinking wines, he wants to create wines with character and the Grüner Veltliner is proof of it.
