Since 1992 Philipp Kuhn junior (just 20 years of age at the time) has been responsible for the ecological welfare of the estate.
Phillip Kuhn started as winemaker right after high school in 1991. It was a decision based on passion rather than on reason. After the scandals of the late 80`s the German wine industry was at its low point and nobody would have suggested a career in the wine industry. But Phillip was driven by the goal to produce only wine of the highest quality. He and a few others were the. Creators of what was later called the German. To achieve his goal, he had to change virtually everything on the farm. Starting with the change of varietals, Philipp was one of the first who planted Pinot Noir at the Kirschgarten site the most prestigious site of the estate. In the following years all vines were replanted apart from the 60-year Riesling stocks, and they expanded the size from 8 ha to 38 ha which today are with 50% white and 50% red grapes. Chardonnay Viognier and Sauvignon Blanc replaced Müller Thurgau and Kerner, Merlot. Cabernet Franc and Cabernet. Sauvignon were added. Just a mere 0,5% are sweet wines, “only to keep my mother in law happy” Phillip says with a smile. All the effort payed off. 2008 Phillip Kuhn became member of the VDP where only the best wineries in Germany are accepted. Today the list of prizes are too long to mention, Phillip is one of the Shooting Stars in Germany his wines are found in the top restaurants all over the country.
