Right at the end of the Franschoek Valley
Boekenhoutskloof was established 1776 at the furthest corner of the Franschoek valley. The Boekenhout is an indigenous tree in the Cape which was used by the people for making furniture. This is still remembered on the label as it depicts a variety of chairs which were made from that wood.In 1993 the farm was bought by several business men who started planting wine, mainly Syrah Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc and Semillon. Just a few year ago some land was purchased in the Swartland at the Porceleinberg where they produce one of the most respected Syrahs of South Africa.
Mark Kent started waiting tables at cape Point where he was introduced by its own to the get wines of the world before he joined Boekenhoutskloof with its first year production of 500 cases. By teaming up with Tim Rands the CEO of Vinimark the winery rally took off producing now over 1,5 million bottles per year. 80% of it is under the label porcupine ridge a line of affordable wines under 10 €. We at wine Merchants tend to focus more on their premium wines like the Boekenhoutskloof Cabernet Sauvignon the Semillon and of course the chocolate Block.
