This 4th generation winery is located in the Swartland between Malmesbury and Paarl. The farms gets its name from a distinctive granite peak which is known as Babylonsforen (Tower of Babylon) and some of the highest vineyards of the Swartland are located here up to 700 meters. The cold winds from the Atlantic Ocean creates a climate that is especially well suited for Rhône varietals. The soil is characterized by decomposed granite which secures fruit purity found in the wine
The farm has 230 hectare and produces approximately 125 tons of grapes. Only 20% of the best grapes are made into wine under the name Babylon's Peak, the rest is sold to cooperatives nearby.
Stephen Basson is 4th generation and joined his father after his studies in 2003. His approach to wine making is best summed up when he says „ Success is no accident. It's hard work, perseverance learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, Love of what you are doing. I am convinced that Chenin Blanc and Shiraz are the icon cultivars of the Paardeberg, says Stephan and he can show Veritas Gold awards in 2007,2008 and 2009 for his Chenin Blanc.
